Phasor Measurement Unit With Digital Inputs: Synchronization and Interoperability Issues

In recent years, the electrical substations are experiencing a rapid transition towards fully digital measurement infrastructure, in terms of data acquisition, storage and processing. The IEC Std 61850-9-2 defines format, also known as Sampled Value (SV), to be employed by instrument transformers, merging units, controller devices. this scenario, it is reasonable expect that Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs) will directly connected with transformers required process SV stream. paper, we present design development stand-alone PMU based on inputs. prototype has been characterized estimation accuracy enriched novel functionality allows for monitoring time quality way, device truly becomes an Intelligent Electronic Device (IED) guarantees higher interoperability well more robust management sporadic synchronization issues. proposed results confirm potential SV-based PMUs, highlight possibility further enhancement synchrophasor measurements inputs only.
